Bergamo, the city of the Thousand and cradle of art and culture, is divided into the "upper" part, located on the hills and surrounded by mighty walls, and the "lower" part, with its villages and its cultural and administrative center. Thanks to its extensive pedestrian and green areas, the whole city is an invitation to walk, to meditate... but also to go shopping. Numerous small boutiques populate the ancient streets; tiny shops where you can find local food products enliven both the upper and lower city with their colors and scents. Restaurants for all tastes and budgets, as well as various ethnicities, welcoming cafes, bars, and artisanal ice cream parlors with outdoor seating, make the stay even more enjoyable.
Not far from Relais dei Mandorli is the administrative, commercial, and cultural center of the city: cinemas, shops, and an ancient, marvelous theater dedicated to Gaetano Donizetti. The Carrara Art Gallery houses immense treasures of art history, alongside the Gamec.
Surrounded by the Orobie Prealps, not far from the city and well served by public and private transportation, you can admire the lakes of Iseo, Lecco, Como, and Garda; you can reach prestigious skiing resorts and admire the dozens of castles that crown the Bergamo area.
Bergamo hosts internationally renowned events: Bergamo Film Festival, International Piano Festival, Bergamo Jazz Festival, etc.
